How to have a sustainable Easter break

Happy Easter from The Eco Collective!

What other time of the year gives you an extra long weekend with the excuse to eat chocolate for four days?!

We love the excitement and the chocolate but not so much the packaging. Never fear, there are loads of things you can do to help keep your Easter low waste.

  • Did you know that you can recycle the foil packaging that Easter Eggs come wrapped in? Just bundle it in into a ball, squash it as much as you can and pop it in your recycling bin. This option is not available in some areas of the country.
  • Recycle all your cardboard and paper packaging. Did you know Trade Aid chocolate comes in 100% compostable packaging?
  • If you’re feeling extra creative, make your own chocolate eggs! Get your hands on some cocoa butter from any bulk bin supplier and invest in a reusable silicon or metal mould - they'll provide a fun activity at Easter for years to come.

And let's not forget, it's not all about the chocolate. Who remembers dying hollowed out eggs for Easter in their childhood? There are tonnes of great tutorials online you can follow AND you'll be saving on waste because you can still use the yolk and white from the eggs. Hours of messy fun!

Happy Easter everyone!
